Growing anywhere
Northern and Southern Hemisphere
Seasons are opposite on each side of the equator, so the planner adjusts to where you grow.
Flower Farm Plan is for growers everywhere. Seed To Stem has a Northern and a Southern Hemisphere setting, so the seasons, weeks and dates line up with where you grow.
What the setting changes
| Northern Hemisphere | Southern Hemisphere | |
|---|---|---|
| For example | United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe | Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, South America |
| Week 1 of the season starts | 1 January | 1 July |
| Starting units | Imperial (feet, square feet) | Metric (metres, square metres) |
| Date format | Month / day / year | Day / month / year |
You can switch units at any time in the planner's settings, whichever hemisphere you choose.
Your frost dates matter most
The hemisphere sets the calendar, but your own frost dates set the planting dates. In the planner you enter:
- Your last spring frost, after which tender plants can safely go outside.
- Your first autumn frost, which ends the season for frost-tender flowers.
- A safety margin in days, to allow for a late frost.
Every sowing and planting date is then worked out from those dates. If you are not sure of your frost dates, a local seed supplier, garden club or weather service can usually tell you.
Close to the equator?
If you grow somewhere without frost, the planner can still help with bed layout, seed numbers and harvest timing. Use the frost dates to mark the start and end of your main growing season.
